Twenty years have passed since the World Trade Center went down and has changed the way we live forever. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. Saturday, September 11th, the country we will pay tribute to the ones who lost their lives due to this act of terrorism.
We will especially acknowledge the women, men, and children that have lost loved ones and call out the names as part of the ceremony. Historic steel monuments have been placed in memorial spots throughout the country in each city or town. Warbird Park in Myrtle Beach now holds tribute to that part of history as well.
Warbird Park – a historic landmark
Myrtle Beach is known as a beach resort but most people don’t know its long military history. What is now depicted as a shopping mecca called Market Commons was home to the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base.
Originally opened up in 1937 and was in operation leading up to World War II. Many of the Airforce personal lived in the residential areas south of Market Commons.

Warbird Park located right off of Highway 17 business is home to several fighter aircraft called the A-10 Thunderbolt, The F-100 Sabre, and the A-7 Corsair. All aircraft where used and maintained in different warzones.
The airforce was closed in 1993 but is still a popular touring area. The park pays tribute to the people who lived in the Myrtle Beach area that served in the Airforce.

9/11 Memorial – Never to forget
The memorial will showcase a part of a steel beam from The World Trade Center North Tower. This was presented to the city and businesses of Myrtle Beach by FDNY, City of New York Fire Department. It was originally located on 29 Avenue North.

Circle of Heroes – A memorial to our POW-MIA’s, Purple Heart Recipients, Battlefield Cross Memorial, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines.
